Final Portfolio

Image
My digital media portfolio is an exploration of the intersection between technology, creativity, and human experience. Through various mediums such as digital illustration, animation, and other interactive installations. My goal was to evoke emotional responses from the viewers of my work, and encourage them to create projects of their own similar to mine. My portfolio shows works that I have created throughout the Spring 2024 semester using Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign. Throughout the portfolio, viewers will see a propaganda poster, a calligramme, my personal tag-brush, photos that I transformed from black and white to color, several business cards that I created, parts of an animation project that I created, a personal logo, a postcard dedicated to the eclipse, and lastly the "somewhere" project. Each project took lots of creative freedom and inspiration from outside sources. This portfolio demonstrates all of my accomplishments throughout the semester.

business cards

For this assignment we were asked to create personal business cards with our name and "phone number"/email. Each business card had to include our personal logo that we had created in Adobe Illustrator, along with our personal information. Each of the three logos were different colors, therefore the color scheme of each business card needed to go along with the color of each of the logos. The cards were created using Adobe InDesign, using the shape tool to create the background colors and designs both on the front and back of the card. Included at the top are the sketches I drew prior to creating the cards. I drew inspiration from business cards that I saw online and ones that were provided as examples in the description of the assignment.

Postcard

For this assignment we were asked to create a postcard in relation to the upcoming solar eclipse. The solar eclipse is occurring on Monday April, 8 around the middle of the day. I chose to promote the city Buffalo, New York; as they are in direct line of the path and will see total darkness during the event. The postcard was created on the InDesign software, using stock images of both a solar eclipse and a skyline of Buffalo, NY when it is dark outside. Included on the postcard is the location of the event, the date, and the time that the event will occur. On the back of the postcard, there is again the location and title of "Solar Eclipse", along with a "postage stamp" that was created using our own personal logo/trademark on Adobe Illustrator. The background along the edges of the back of the card is made up of images from the picture of the eclipse, keeping the overall vibe of the card dark- relating to the eclipse and losing total sunlight for a period of time.

InDesign Tools

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zgbtUQQ2eno InDesign is a very powerful/helpful tool used for creating layouts for both print and digital media. Understanding the basics of the software is crucial for navigating the program efficiently. The selection tool is possibly the most frequently used tool in the software. It makes it so that you can move, resize, and manipulate different objects within your project.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AshfNo-i8Ws The type tool is used for adding and formatting things within your project. You can click anywhere on the page to create a text frame where then you can create of paste your content. This also allows you to adjust your font styles, colors, size, and other text attributes. The rectangle frame tool allows you to draw rectangle/square frames that can be used for placing images or other content within your project. Once the frame is created, you easily can import images or graphics into your project.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ycA97SSM

Animation

Image
For this assignment we were asked to create an animation story using photoshop. My story is about a woman with a dog. She starts off by giving him love and attention before she has to leave to go to work for the day. When she leaves, the dog is sad because he is left at home alone, so he sits and waits for her to get back. Once she gets home, the dog runs to her and she gives him lots of love and pets to make sure he is happy. Then, the story repeats the following day when the woman has to return to work and leave again. The stock images that I used to create the animation are shown below.

These tools specifically, are easy for users to find and use to generate content within the photoshop application. Additionally, the features such as onion skinning can help when creating seamless transitions between different frames which enhances the effect of the animation overall. More complex frame-by-frame tools require more precise attention to detail and intricate use of the tool. Achieving a fluid motion and intricate attention to detail can take longer to achieve, especially when patience is not a virtue. Additionally, managing a large number of frames at one time can become quite a meticulous process to maintain clarity and efficiency throughout the process.

Somewhere

Image
In this project, we were asked to choose a movie or TV show to insert ourselves into. I chose the movie Step Brothers, more specifically the "Boats N Hoes" scene of the movie. This scene occurs at the end once the brothers have decided they were going to be best friends. They create this song on their dad's boat and end up crashing it at the end of the music video. I happened to be on a boat around the time of this project, so I was able to take my picture on a boat, making it easier to insert myself into the scene. I inserted myself to the left of Brennan, more of in the background so that it looked the most seamless. The scene is a very silly, unserious vibe; this is why I chose to take a sillier picture so that it would look more natural as I inserted myself as a part of this particular scene.
