WiFi and the Internet

In simple terms, the internet is a global network of the millions of computers and other devices that people use daily. The internet allows us to connect with other people and a variety of information. In 1950, two American computer scientists named Bob Kahn and Vint Cerf developed a set of protocols that allow data to move through a network. Although they collaborated, Vint is credited with the first written use of the word "internet". Originally it was developed to have a communication system without having a centralized headquarters. Whereas today we use the internet to pay bills, play games, meet new people, and much more.

Also known as WWW or W3, the World Wide Web refers to all public websites that people can access on their computers and other technical devices through the Internet. Starting in 1989, a British physicist named Tim Berners-Lee invented the World Wide Web. With his colleagues, he intended to combine already available technologies to create a user-friendly system. They worked towards global communication and information sharing.

Although the Internet and the World Wide Web are closely interconnected, they are different from each other. The web is one of the multiple things built on top of the internet, a global network of smaller networks. The internet connects networks, websites, and various users together, whereas the web enables the retrieval of information through HTTP. However, to view the information that the web produces, users must download browsers to their computer such as Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, and more.

The first website was created in 1989 by Berners-Lee, calling it Web 1.0. The website had no video content and had a format similar to that of. aprinted page. Its focus was on providing users with information and was primarily static. The first website created used the link: info.cern.ch, which it is still active today and users can look around and see what Web 1.0 was like. Web 2.0 came around in the beginning of the 21st century and became more interactive and dynamic than its original version.

In between starring in various movies, Hedy Lamarr and her friend would mess around sith radio waves in an attempt to help with the ongoing war effort. ON night in the 1940's, they discovered a technique called "frequency hopping", which later allowed allied torpedoes to strike the enemy without getting jammed by the radio. This played a huge role in WWII and the technique was eventually used to develop Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and GPS. Although the actress may not have directly invented Wi-Fi or Bluetooth, she discovered a very important part to further the process. Johnny Depp wrote a song called "This is a Song for Miss Hedy Lamarr" about the parallels between the two's careers. Lamarr became widely successful due to her sex appeal in films, despite her talents as an inventor.

Bluetooth technology was invented in 1944 by a man named Jaap Haartsen. This yead he laid the groundwork for the system that later became known as Bluetooth Wireless Technology. The year prior, in Sweden, Haartsen began his work on indoor wireless communication systems. his purpose was to add ease and functionality to mobile phones and create new sales. The design pf the logo was named after a king in 1997 based on the analogy that technology would unite devices in the same way that Harold Bluetooth united tribes in Denmark.

Wi-Fi was primarily invented by Vic Hayes, calling him the "father of Wi-Fi". The standards of Wi-Fi were created in 1997 and many companies were trying to come up with the concept of a wireless communication system. Originally, Wi-Fi was called the Wireless Ethernet Compatibility Alliance and it turns out that the modern term "Wi-Fi" does not stand for anything. The history of the term Wi-Fi was shared with the world in 2005 by one of the Wi-Fi Alliance members, Phil Belanger.
